Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that fitting a new kitchen is a daunting task and you want to make sure you have covered every angle before you go ahead, so we have compiled some FAQ’s we get asked a lot. Just click the questions below to reveal the answers.

Q: Why should I buy my kitchen from SJM Kitchens?

A: Having been a kitchen fitter and supplier for the last 15 years I know in great detail the quality of kitchens that other companies supply and only use the highest quality suppliers who offer exceptional value for money.  Also as my kitchens are made to order, cabinet sizes and door colours are endless.

Q: How would you help me visualise my new kitchen?

A: I offer very realistic 3d drawings which will show you exactly how your new kitchen will look in your home.

Q: Do you have soft closing doors with your kitchens?

A: Yes everything is soft close using market leaders Blum.

Q: Do you sell internal wirework like magic corners?

A: Yes I can even have them fitted in the cabinet for you.

Q: What are the advantages of not having a showroom?

A: Through not having a showroom I can save on overheads which are passed onto you the customer.

Q: How do you compare quality wise with other kitchen companies?

A: The quality of my kitchens are very much in the mid to high end range, easily surpassing all the DIY stores and national kitchen showrooms. The quality compares and even exceeds expensive independent showrooms but without the price tag.

Q: How do you compare price wise with other kitchen companies?

A: Even though my kitchens are  far superior in quality to the national kitchen showrooms, price wise they compare  favourably normally being able to match or beat them. Compared to expensive Independent Showrooms my prices would be anything from 30% to 70% less.

Q: Why don’t I sell German kitchens?

A: I feel I have no need to supply German kitchens.  My suppliers can offer everything a German kitchen has to offer and more.   For example with my handle less rail kitchens I can offer       curved units/doors in any colour with matching colour rail handles if wanted, as opposed to the standard chrome.

Though my kitchens are made in Britian the machinery used is mainly imported from Germany and some materials like High Density Egger Board which is used to make the cabinets         and Durapol Laminate worktops which is always my preferred laminate worktop manufacturer.

Q: I have an awkward shaped kitchen and other kitchen retailers seem to leave a lot of dead space. Would I have this problem with SJM Kitchens?

A: No you would not have this problem with me as my kitchens have a lot more unit sizes as standard and can make bespoke units and doors to any size.

Q: Are your kitchens flat pack?

A: No all my kitchens come with rigid cabinets and doors attached to save time and money on fitting.  Units can be requested to be delivered dry assembled (not glued) and I would recommend this for 900mm by 900mm corner units due to access, though when I do a site survey I will let you know if this is needed.

Q: Can you do curved kitchen doors?

A: Yes

Q: Do you supply handleless kitchens?

A: Yes I can supply a number of different styles in the Handle less range with many of the doors coming in any colour you wish.

Q: Can you project manage the installation?

A: Yes having been a fitter for over 15 years I have the best tradesmen in place to assist with work needed to fit the kitchen from electrics / gas work to solid surface fabricators.

Q: I have a small kitchen. Would you be able to help?

A: With my kitchens being made to order and having an extensive range of internal wireworks small kitchens are not a problem for SJM Kitchens and I have many customers who were amazed at the cabinet space I created for them.

Q: Can I come to you with plans from another kitchen company?

A: Yes.  If you are happy with the design provided from another company I would be happy to do a exact comparison for you to compare.  Normally I can improve on the design due to more cabinet sizes on offer and  different door styles to the norm and also simply by listening to the clients needs rather than trying to sell them as much as possible.

Q: Do you hard sell?

A: No not at all.  If you decide to get me round to design a kitchen for you it normally takes 1 to 1.5 hours and this would include a full survey. As well as discussing doorstyle and different worktop materials , I will visually inspect your electrics and plumbing to make sure it is upto standard and advice on any work needed

Q: If I decide to DIY install my kitchen can you assist?

A: Yes Im very happy to offer as much advice over the phone as needed and can also make site visit if needed.  I am also willing to do finishing touches like fitting worktops if you are not confident.

Q: Can we supply our own appliances?

A: Yes you can.  I supply Neff and Seimens as the quality is very much in keeping with my kitchens but there are other more budget friendly appliance companies out there and I would be happy to work with you to get the best for your budget.

Q: What are your payment terms?

A: Once you have decided exactly what kitchen and design you would like I request a 30% deposit to confirm the order.  The other 70% would be payable on delivery.   If I fit or project manage the installation of your kitchen I normally take some money on the first day of installation to cover outgoing costs and final payment on completion once you have looked round your new kitchen and are 100% happy.

Q: Do you offer any guarantees?

A: Yes my kitchens are guaranteed for 10 years and workmanship 2 years.

Q: How far do you travel?

A: Im happy to travel all over London and Essex and some parts of Kent. If you are unsure if I cover you area please call me and ask.
